Request for Information on Renewal Regulations for Utility Models in Malaysia

The duration of a certificate for a utility innovation (i.e. Utility Model) is protected ten (10) years from the filing date of the application. The utility model may be protected for a further 5 + 5 years from the date of filing subject to use.

The application for extension shall be accompanied by an affidavit of the owner of the certificate for the utility innovation showing that the utility innovation is in commercial or industrial use in Malaysia and accompanied by the prescribed fee. Annual fee for certificate for utility innovation is from the third year after grant of the certificate.
